"Thanks Glenferrie Lodge..."
Susan Loane, Nov 9th, 2010
Thanks Glenferrie Lodge, and your lovely staff for all that u do and did for me whilst I was in Sydney. Despite some disturbances ( other tennants mostly) , I really LOVED your place, and next time I shall upgrade to a higher level ( always a good thing to do I feel!)...but I loved your breakfast's and lovely dinning lounge area, and the verandah that made getting up in the morn a pleasure, hopefully will see you again soon, as I am applying for a full time position in Sydney this week, but am staying at a friends place in the interim period ...but hopefully will be able to have one or two days at Glenferrie when I make the big move on a permanent basis, before finding permanent accommodation.... your staff were so wonderful, especially when I would wake them up at 6 am because I left my key in my room ...:) and the cleaning staff, a young Asian man , whose name escapes me, was very charming and caring...

"looking forward to returning"
Matthew Voce, July 20th, 2009
Thanks for a pleasant stay at Glenferrie, I was most happy with the location, the cleanliness, the food and the tariff.
I have only good things to report to friends and family looking for some where to stay whilst in Sydney.
I think the thing that sets it apart from other accommodation experiences I have had in Sydney was the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
I am looking forward to returning next time I am in Sydney.
kind regards to staff

"Thank you Glenferrie for making our stay in Sydney so memorable!!"
Anushree, Nov 3, 2009
My husband and me had stayed at Glenferrie in August 2009 for 8 days and we really had a wonderful time. We fell in love with the lodge the moment we saw it for the first time. The location is simply perfect, quiet but still so close to the heart of Sydney!! i think what i loved best was the 5 min walk to the ferry.. Trust me nothing on their website is exaggerated.. It is really good value for money.. and after reading online about their breakfast i was really curious to see if it lived up to the expectations and trust me it did.. it was simply yummy!!! The staff too is very helpful and ready to offer assistance at all times.. i would just pop down to the reception to get some special local tips :).. We will definitely love to visit Glenferrie the next time we are in Sydney and i would definitely recommend it to people who want Good value for money, Great Location and Good Hospitality without invading your Privacy.
Thank you Glenferrie for making our stay in Sydney so memorable!!

"I love the GF"
Jan 31, 2009
It reminds me of an old fashioned B&B with a real country feel about it. You have just what you need - share bathroom might be hard to get used to - but short stroll to the best harbour views. Great restaurants nearby but best of all is having a buffet breakfast under the trees in the garden. Very quaint and one of the cheapest prices in Sydney, especially for North Shore.

"Many thanks well come again. And again!"
Valerie Adams, Nov 19, 2009
Just returned from our fabulous long weekend in Sydney: we stayed in Glenferrie Lodge. Absolutely fantastic Id recommend it to anyone! In fact I already have I took several of your brochures into work this morning. Not only was Glenferrie Lodge exceptional value for money, but it sits quietly in the most beautiful suburb of Sydney, within minutes (by charming ferry) of the biggest attractions. The location, the price and the hot buffet breakfast make it so easy for us to visit Sydney with our young family! Many thanks well come again. And again!

"Can't ask for better!"
Katherine, Sept 11, 2009
Thank you so very much for just being there. I was so pleased with every aspect of my stay that I have officially recommended it, as promised, in news updates. http://www.globalthundanetwork.com/bb-gigs/nanas-aussie-leg.html
Staff was friendly, helpful and mostly cheerful. The breakfast was as nice as any of it's type, and the rooms clean and neat. As for location, can't ask for better!

"Looking forward to coming back"

I have stayed in your wonderful lodge several times now with my partner - and we think it is just wonderful!

"Breakfast was great and the location was brilliant"
Paddy and Vera, Nov 14, 2008
Staff extremely helpful. Stairs could be a problem for wrinklies such as us but we asked and got moved downstairs at the first opportunity. Breakfast was great and the location was brilliant, only five minutes walk away from the ferry and if you fancied a bit longer walk, about fifteen to twenty minutes walk to the other ferry. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Paddy and Vera (A pair of old wrinklies).........

"Difficult to beat!"
Aikidoman, Japan, Nov 12, 2008
We have been staying at and sending students to stay at the Glenferrie lodge for quite a few years now. We love the place.
It is really quite difficult to beat. Sure its not the four seasons but
it makes up for that in so many ways.
Go expecting basic, clean facilities and a warm welcome and you won't be dissapointed. The shared bathrooms are always clean and the are plenty of them through the hotel so you rarely have to wait. The breakfast is more than you can expect for the money. They even leave fruit around for the guest to enjoy during the day. Sure the staff probably aren't trained up to the Ritz-carlton standard but they'll do their best to help you out and always have a smile for you.
The rooms themselves are basic but comfortable. The Location is unbeatable. Basically for the price you can't really go wrong.
To sum up the Glenferrie is "Basic but Honest ". It certainly doesn't try to put itself over as a full service hotel but the services it does supply are more than can be expected.

"Cheap, close to city, great breakfast"
BuccalUnderPressure, Perth, Western Australia, Nov 9, 2008
I stayed at Glenferrie Lodge for 3 nights while attending a course in Sydney. I picked it for the price and accessibility - both to the city and to my course in St Leonards.
It was easy to find from the train line - about a 10 minute slow walk. Checkin was fast. My room was basic (in line with what you would expect for $80 a night!) but perfectly adequate. THere was a heater which warmed it up well.
The lodge has a pleasant atmosphere, although at nights as with a backpacker's there were a lot of people standing around outside and in the foyers chatting loudly, but that's what I get for needing lots of sleep and wanting to be in bed by 9pm! Once in the room, there was little noise.
The shared showers were reasonably clean and nice to use.
The breakfast was really yummy!!! Lots of variety and definitely more than what you would expect in an $80 a night establishment!
The location cannot be beaten. 3 minute walk to the ferry, which takes you right past the Opera House and Harbour Bridge and into Circular Quay in 10 minutes. Or 10 minute walk to the main north train line.
I would happily stay again and recommend it to anyone looking for budget accomodation.

"Hi from Vancouver Island, Canada"
Paula, Vancouver Island, Canada, Sep 14, 2008
Just wanted to say Hi, and again, let you know how much I enjoyed my stay there. You have an awesome place, people were very friendly, rooms, bathrooms etc. very very clean. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous. And the neighbourhood is awesome, just a hop, skip and a jump from the ferry. I would most certainly stay with you folks again, and would not hesitate to recommend your facility! Thanks again!

"Clean, well-equipped, well-maintained"
twelve_bells, Denver, Colorado, USA, Jul 25, 2008
I stayed here at the beginning and end of a 3 month trip to Australia/NZ, and enjoyed it both times. The first stay was in a single economy room. Room was quite small, but still clean and comfortable. By the way, breakfasts are really good (included with room).
The staff went out of their way to help me retrieve my luggage that United airlines basically lost in the Sydney airport. They were very, very helpful. The location is excellent. Just outside of busy Sydney, but an easy train or ferry trip to the city. My last night there I caught a ferry 5 minutes from the hotel to see a concert at the Sydney Opera house - what could be better than that?!

"Clean, well-equipped, well-maintained"
JPCArmidale, Armidale, NSW, Australia, Jun 18, 2008
Bathrooms were spotless, there was a PC you could access the internet from ($2 for 10 mins, my teenager was on it repeatedly, keeping up with the dozen of so missives from his friends that seem to arrive every few hours), lockers for left luggage (biggest $7 for 4hrs) and a change-dispensing machine. They seem to have thought of everything - or fine-tuned what they offer to suit what people have requested over time.
Our twin room was small, of course, as they look on the website, but it was handy to the dining room and the bathroom and opened onto the garden (luckily not too many smokers wafted at us).
The breakfast was truly excellent. I was sorry not to sample the dinner but the chef was away that week.
I'd go back, and heartily recommend it to others, bearing in mind that it is hostel-level facilities albeit in an exclusive location and a charmingly grand old house, so perhaps not suited to those who prefer the bland anonymity of a standard hotel room with TV, ensuite all in one box.

"Perfect Place"
The_KingCanberra, Canberra, Australia, May 31, 2008
We stayed one week night to see state of origin game in Sydney. We wanted 2 singles but none available so settled on a twin for $79 which included breakfast. The room was at top of stairs (3rd story) and had access from outside. We were lucky it wasn't raining otherwise we would have got wet. It was very clean with TV Frig Jug coffee tea and towels and a cake of soap each. Toilets were shared but no problem with separate shared showers except not much hanging space for clothes which you need as shared betwee men and women. It was very quiet and although a cold night in Sydney it was warm without heating and single beds were comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with full buffet - juice cereals bacon scrambled and fried eggs tomatoes potato sausages toast baked beans fresh fruit percolated coffee etc + papers to read. We caught the rivercat to Homebush stadium from Luna park (short walk) and train back to Milson's point (short walk). We were lucky to get an unlimited park in the street about 50 metres down the road but there are plenty of 2 hour parks in the streets nearby.
I would not recommend anyone with a lot of luggage to stay upstairs as it was a long way to carry bags. Ask for a lower floor.

"Perfect Place"
NelsonMeg, Nelson, May 25, 2008
My sister and I have just returned from Sydney. We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed everything about Glenferrie Lodge.
Having been caught out with internet accommodation in Fiji last year, we went along with an open mind. We shared a twin room, which was roomy, had tv, fridge, blow dryer and unlimited coffee, tea etc...everything we needed.
Towels were changed as often as required and our linen changed on the fourth day. Bathrooms were always clean and plenty of hot water. Ferries just down the road and the train a short walk away, handy when struggling with all the shopping.
Staff and Management could not have been more helpful, and as everyone says the breakfast was excellent...a great way to start the day.
Strange, how you can get such a variety of reviews about a place. We did not have any complaint about anything. It is a three star Lodge and every one who was there at the time, that we talked to was very happy with their rooms etc.
We will certainly stay again if in Sydney and will recommend Glenferrie Lodge to friends and family .
Keep up the good work.
Liz and Lynda

"Did what it said on the tin"
12thDomino, Whitehaven, United Kingdom, Apr 2, 2008
Glenferrie Lodge I stayed there on the 16th through to 19th March 2008 and was pleasently suprised, The room was as basic as it gets, but clean and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent, and no problems with the broadband which was the cheapest I came across.
I enjoyed my stay there so much I tried to return there at the end of my trip sadly without sucess.
It is located in a quiet leafy suburb but just a short ferry trip across to Circular Quay and central Sydney, it is also near the bridge which can be walked over to the city, though I'd take the ferry.
Don't expect five star it isn't but I'll go again, hopefully soon.

"We will be back at least 2 or 3 times during the year"
Merelyn and Chris Rattray, Coffs Harbour, Australia, January 2008
Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Glenferrie. We
have been several times before but it just gets better. The location is A1 and the meals are fabulous. I have been very happy to
refer brochures my work place, Coffs Harbour City Council; I know quite a few have already enjoyed
Glenferrie.
Staff are very helpful efficient and enjoy their work, its obvious. We love
the family atmosphere and love meeting people from around the globe. We will be back at least 2 or 3 times during the year and we look forward
to seeing you again.
Congratulations, Glenferrie, a fabulous place to stay. We especially would like to thank Belynda and Ash
Kind regards
See You Soon

"Great Breakie, Good location, don't expect a taxi to come here though"
SF_Thommo, Port Macquarie, Australia Sep 5, 2007
The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the staff are great, the breakfast is amazing. The outdoor area has a sensational
BBQ and beautiful surroundings. The hotel is a little noisy from 6am in the morning I think that depends on the room you get, the fridge needed to be
turned off at night in both rooms I have stayed in (noisy). I think I may be a little sensative to that sort of thing
though.
The bathrooms are unisex but very secure once you are in them and although the place was full I never had to wait for a
shower. Being a share bathroom bring a pair of thongs (it is just eaiser).
For the price this is great and with the breakfast you get you only need a realy light lunch so it saves money there
too.

"Yummiest Breakfast"
NV, Sydney Jul 27, 2007
The rooms are spartan, but the suburb is lovely and you are a fun walk (across the Bridge) away from the Rocks. But
best of all is the breakfast - this is delicious and plentiful. I only stayed 1 night so the shared bathroom wasn't an
issue - I would definitely stay there again!

"Our Large Group thanks you!"
Villamusic, Brisbane, Australia Jul 9, 2007
We brought a group of 100 music students, staff and parents to Glenferrie as it came highly recommended for student groups by the management of the music festival we were attending. The staff was most helpful and accommodating for our group. The lodge was perfect for our group because we knew ahead of time that it was a three-star hostel-style facility with shared amenities and that it included hot breakfast. We weren't expecting anything more than that, and were very happy with our rooms. We found the night manager to be very helpful when little problems arose, such as students locked out, etc....
I would recommend this to any travelling groups, especially those needing to be based at the opera house, or in the city as the ferry terminal is only 2 blocks away and 6 minutes to Circular Quay.

"Weather awful, Hospitality sensational"
Julie, Sunshine Coast, Queensland Jun 19, 2007
Just want to let you know that everybody had a fantastic time on Sunday. Everyone at the lodge was extremely hospitable and obliging. All of our guests enjoyed their stay and I'm sure that we and others will be back again soon.
Thank you very much.

"Great & Reasonable Family place"
WH, Dubai UAE, May 26, 2007
Our stay in the Glenferrie lodge was a great place for value. We booked two rooms for 2 adults and 2 children on the first floor. The rooms were clean and comfortable and had a balcony with harbour view. Plenty of fresh air and light. The location is perfect for a family to stay. Just close by (5-10 minutes by walk) to the ferry stop and then 6 minutes to the Circular Quay by ferry. Buffet breakfast is really good and tasty.
The lodge has a small garden of its own and other basic facilities such as laundry, ironing , lockers etc. Although the bathrooms are shared but they are maintained very clean and in hygenic order. Never had to wait in queue.
THE BOSS ( Judy ) is really helpful and friendly. All the other staffs have been very helpful as well. Our children loved the place and specially the Chef's big golden dog which is so friendly that it was like our pet.
Would recommend it to others as well. HAVE A NICE TIME.

Lonely Planet Review - 2005: "This hotel is in a large, beautiful old house with a ridiculous sculpture out the front (you can't miss it). It has clean rooms with fridge, television, and helpful, friendly management. Bathrooms are shared, but their kept in damn good nick. Prices for simpler rooms are cheaper, and there are also a few dorm beds available, with reductions for longer stays on all rooms. The hotel is accessible from Milsons Point train station or Kirribilli wharf by Ferry."

Dear Mark,
May I, on behalf of the Frost family, thank you all for the very comforable stay that we had at the Glenferrie Lodge from August 18-25. We had a wonderful time in Sydney and the friendliness and helpfulness of all at Glennferrie made our first visit to Australia very memorable. We returned home at the beginning of September determined to come again.
Thank you once again for the wonderful service Glenferrie Lodge provided for us during our all too brief stay,
With best wishes,
The Rev. David Frost - 11th September, 2006

To the Manager,
Glenferrie Lodge.
I have stayed at Glenferrie Lodge approx 10 times since my first stay in 2003. My most recent stay was last Saturday night while I competed in the City to Surf event.
Upon leaving, and saying thankyou, I mentioned to your receptionist many changes I have noticed upon each of my visits over the years.
The first change I noticed was the transformation of backyard into garden, then outdoor tables, umbrellas and chairs, inside, the photos on the walls in the dining and lounge areas (might I add they have been appropriately chosen for tourists, besides looking really good), change of glass tables to tables for 4 in the dining area, the blue lounge sofas, new coffee table, the television with the huge screen, new curtains and dried flower arrangements in the dining/lounge windows, thankyou for the change of continental breakfast to European style with hot breakfast (mmm yummy!!) to get your guests going throughout the day, towels soaps, blankets and extension cords provided in guest rooms. And a big thankyou for putting in lockers!!
There are probably other things I may have not have noticed, but the extra half star added to the 2.5 - how good is that?
I appreciate the location (close to both ferry and train), the standard of affordable accommodation and services provided , and the professional friendly manner of Glenferrie Lodge staff.
I will be coming again next March for my usual annual visit.
Thanks,
Annette Dawson - 17th August, 2006
