...pick up a bargain at the craft markets!
Craft markets have been operating and growing since the early 70's, most of them started out as groups of friends getting together to barter and sell their craft and produce items. Having grown immensely over the last 30 years, craft markets and produce markets can be found in just about every community around the country both in city and urban centres. Sydney is home to hundreds of craft markets, the oldest and most known being Paddington Markets that has been operating since 1973. Craft markets are a good place for the backpacker or traveller to pick up a bargain.
Paddington Markets
Paddington Markets is Sydney's oldest community market. Born in 1973 during the 'hippie' era, a time of social change, creativity and independence, the markets evolved from a handful of artists and designers meeting to mingle and hang out at the Village Church Community Centre. The Markets are located in historical Paddington, one of the last remaining pockets of Victorian terrace houses in Sydney. Definitely the place to go for art, crafts, clothing and fresh produce.
Glebe Markets
Glebe is an exciting place for residents and visitors alike. With its long history of ?bohemian? lifestyle, activism and intellectual pursuits, Glebe?s reputation as an alternative suburb is well-founded.
